Um exemplo de Otimismo foi demonstrado por thomas Edison, o gênio inventor e um inveterado Otimista, pela forma como reagiu a um aparente grande infortúnio. 

Numa noite de 1914,seu laboratório, que valia mais de US$ 2 milhões na época e não estava no seguro, começou a se incendiar, com todos os preciosos registros de Edison em seu interior. 

No auge do incêndio, enquanto os bombeiros tentavam apagar o fogo, charles, filho de Edison, freneticamente procurava o Pai, que tinha o hábito de trabalhar até tarde da noite. 

Aliviado, ele encontrou Edison fora do laboratório, fitando serenamente a cena. 

O Semblante de seu pai refletia o brilho das chamas e seus cabelos grisalhos esvoaçavam ao sabor da leve brisa. 

Charles sentiu um aperto no coração vendo o pai, com 67 anos, testemunhar o trabalho de toda uma vida ser consumido pelas cinzas. 

Após horas de silêncio. Edison disse a seu filho: 

Existe um grande valor num desastre como este. Todos os nossos erros são queimados. 

Graças a Deus podemos começar tudo de novo. 

E Edison, de fato, começou de novo. 

Até o incêndio ele tinha passado três anos tentando inventar o toca discos. 

Três semanas após o desastre ele conseguiu.

An example of Optimism was demonstrated by Thomas Edison, the genius inventor and an inveterate Optimist, for the way he reacted to an apparent great misfortune.

One night in 1914, his laboratory, worth over $ 2 million at the time and not in the insurance, began to catch fire, with all of Edison's precious records inside.

At the height of the fire, as firefighters tried to put out the fire, charles, son of Edison, frantically sought out Father, who had a habit of working late into the night.

Until the fire he had spent three years trying to invent the turntables.
