O que realmente importa

Conta-se que, certo dia, um imperador decidiu que se soubesse as respostas para três questões, sempre saberia o que fazer, não importasse o quê. Então, mandou anunciar por todo o reino que se alguém pudesse responder suas indagações, receberia grande recompensa. As três questões eram as seguintes: Quando é o melhor tempo para se fazer alguma coisa? Quem é a pessoa mais importante? Qual o objetivo mais importante?

Muitas respostas chegaram, mas nenhuma o satisfez. Finalmente, ele decidiu viajar ao encontro de um velho eremita no topo da montanha, pois talvez este o ajudasse.

Ao chegar, encontrou-o carpindo seu jardim. Ele o ouviu atentamente e sem dizer uma palavra retornou ao trabalho. Observando-o, o imperador percebeu o quanto estava cansado. Assim, decidiu ajudá-lo a carpir a fim de que o velho descansasse um pouco.

Depois de trabalhar por horas, o imperador estava exausto. Pôs então a enxada de lado e disse: "Se você não pode responder minhas questões, vou embora".

De repente o eremita pergunta: "Você ouviu alguém correndo?", apontando para o bosque.

De repente, surge um homem cambaleando entre as árvores com as mãos no estômago. Quando ambos se aproximaram, o moribundo desmaiou. Abrindo sua camisa, viram um corte profundo. O imperador limpou a ferida, usando a própria roupa para estancar o sangue. Ao recobrar a consciência o homem disse estar com muita sede. O imperador correu até o riacho e trouxe-lhe água. O homem bebeu e dormiu. O imperador, cansado, também dormiu.

Na manhã seguinte, ao acordar, o imperador viu o ferido à sua frente murmurando: "Perdoa-me!".

"Perdoar você?", perguntou o imperador. "O que fizestes que necessita de meu perdão?".

"Vossa Majestade não me conhece, mas eu o tenho considerado como meu pior inimigo. Durante a guerra, seu exército matou meu irmão e roubou minhas terras. Então, jurei matá-lo. De fato, ontem eu estava em uma emboscada, esperando vossa majestade retornar para casa. Esperei muito tempo, mas, por alguma razão, vossa majestade não retornou. Quando deixei o esconderijo para procurá-lo seus guardas me encontraram, atacaram-me e feriram-me. Se vossa majestade não tivesse me ajudado eu certamente teria morrido. Vossa majestade salvou minha vida. Estou envergonhado e muito agradecido. Por favor, perdoe-me".

Atônito, o imperador respondeu: "Sou agradecido por seu ódio ter acabado. Desculpe-me também pela dor que tenho lhe causado. Eu o perdôo e lhe devolverei suas terras. Seremos amigos de agora em diante".

Depois de orientar seus guardas para levarem o homem para casa, o imperador dirigiu-se ao eremita: "Agora devo ir. Viajarei para todo lugar procurando as respostas para minhas três questões. Espero algum dia encontrá-las. Adeus".

O eremita sorriu e disse: "Suas questões já foram respondidas, Majestade!".

"O que você está dizendo?", exclamou surpreso o imperador. O eremita explicou:

"Se você não tivesse me ajudado a carpir o jardim ontem, atrasando o seu retorno, teria sido atacado no caminho. O tempo mais importante para você foi o que usou para me auxiliar. A pessoa mais importante fui eu; e o objetivo mais importante era simplesmente me ajudar. Depois, quando o homem ferido chegou, o tempo mais importante foi o que despendeu cuidando de sua ferida. De outro modo, ele teria morrido e você teria perdido para sempre a oportunidade de perdoá-lo. Naquele momento, ele era a pessoa mais importante e o objetivo mais importante era tratar sua ferida".

"O presente momento é o único momento", disse o eremita. "A pessoa mais importante é sempre a pessoa com quem você está. O objetivo mais importante é fazer a pessoa que está ao seu lado feliz. O que podia ser mais simples ou mais importante?".

O imperador curvou-se em gratidão para o velho eremita e foi em paz!
 
Nunca se esqueça de que as oportunidades vividas são únicas e insubstituíveis. Pode ser a última esperança de salvação para alguém. Por isso, o melhor tempo é AGORA; a pessoa mais importante é A QUE ESTÁ EM SEU CAMINHO; e o objetivo mais importante da vida é O AMOR.

The next morning, upon awakening, the Emperor saw the hurt in front of muttering: "forgive me!".

"Forgive you?" asked the emperor. "What did you do that requires my forgiveness?".

"Your Majesty does not know me, but I have considered to be my worst enemy. During the war, his army killed my brother and stole my land. So I swore to kill him. In fact, yesterday I was in an ambush, waiting for his Majesty to return home. I've waited a long time, but for some reason, your Majesty did not return.
